DR. TONY SAM GEORGE | MSW, M.PHIL., PH.D. – Experienced Professor of Psychology with a demonstrated history of working in the education management industry. Strong education professional with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) focused on Group Psychotherapy from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences.
Dr. Tony Sam George is a practicing Psychotherapist and is involved in training, research, and clinical practice. He is the Dean of Psychological Sciences and School of Education, previously the Head of the Psychology department, and supports the Centre for Research at Christ University, Bangalore India.
He was the founding director of the Centre for Academic and Professional Support. With over two decades of clinical and teaching experience, Dr. Tony Sam George’s vision is to create a culture of sharing best practices and knowledge and helping individuals reach their full potential.
Dr. George gained his doctoral degree in Psychiatric Social Work from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, Bangalore and subsequently spent time directing and coordinating the Masters level training programmes in Counselling psychology and psychology at Montfort College Bangalore.
As a practicing Psychotherapist, Dr. George has a clinical interest in Group, Family, and Couples therapy. He has research interests in adolescent mental health, family violence, Social models of care in anxiety disorders, the professional development of the psychotherapist, the doctoral supervision process, and more recently the impact of online teaching on student mental health. His clinical practice focuses on working with young adults, Marital and couples therapy, and group therapy for personal growth. He has developed models of support and care for patients suffering from Obsessive-compulsive disorder and is a featured resource person for the Obsessive- compulsive Foundation, USA. His doctoral dissertation focused on the role of group therapy in reducing social disability among persons affected by OCD.
His training focuses on using integrative models of counselling to understand client needs and works in supervisory positions for mental health professionals in India.
Dr. George is a visiting fellow to the Autonomous Medical University of Mexico at St Louis Potosi and University of Western Cape South Africa. He was also an alumnus of the United Board Fellows Programme and spent time at Harvard Graduate School of Education and Sophia University Tokyo as
part of the Fellows programme.
Dr. George is a founder Trustee of Kerygma – an organization that works among urban youth, Ascension Hope Foundation – an agency created to deliver mental health services to marginalized groups and Path Foundation – focusing on life coaching and development.
He is a consultant to a number of Corporate agencies in Bangalore.
He serves as Research guide to Doctoral candidates in Universities in India and abroad.
Dr. Tony lives in Bangalore with his wife Isabel Paul – a clinical Psychologist and Certified EAP Practioner – and his daughter
Kathryn Nicole who is pursuing her Masters.
